Silica Slag
Special Ferroalloys
Product information:
Silica slag is a byproduct generated during the production of metallic silicon and ferrosilicon. During the smelting of silicon, the surface of the molten silicon is covered by a slag containing iron, aluminum, calcium, carbon, and other impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus. Silica slag is subsequently separated based on the differing densities of these elements. Furthermore, this slag contains a significant amount of silicon; specifically, the silicon content in ore-based furnace melts exceeds 40%, while in medium-frequency furnace melts, it exceeds 60%. Depending on the various production processes, silica slag can be categorized into two types: silicon metal slag and ferrosilicon slag.

Types and specifications of silica slag:

Features and Applications:
- Silica slag can be used as a deoxidizer to replace ferrosilicon in steelmaking and cast iron production.
- Silica slag improves the fluidity of molten iron, increases slag efficiency, elevates furnace temperature, reduces fuel consumption, enhances toughness, lowers overall production costs, and improves productivity.
- Silica slag is significantly cheaper than ferrosilicon, which can greatly reduce production costs in steelmaking.
Alloying Agent: Silica slag is often used as an alloying agent in the production of various alloys, such as ferrosilicon, which is utilized in steel production.
Deoxidizing Agent: It can be used as a deoxidizer in the steelmaking process, helping to remove oxygen from molten steel.
Fertilizer: Due to its rich silicon content, silica slag can be used as a fertilizer in agriculture to improve soil structure and plant growth.
Construction Materials: Silica slag can be used in the production of construction materials such as cement and concrete to enhance specific properties.
Refractory Materials: Because of its heat-resistant properties, silica slag is sometimes used in the manufacturing of refractory materials.
Chemical Industry: It may find applications in the chemical industry for specific chemical processes.
